Self-directed Learning Predicts Online Learning Engagement in Higher Education Mediated by Perceived Value of Knowing Learning Goals

Online education has made it possible to implement the “classes suspended but learning continues” policy during COVID-19 outbreak. However, intangible sense of online educational setting requires self-directed (SDL) and may force students know goals that impact their engagement. To understand effect, based on situated expectancy-value theory, this study considered SDL as attitude approach constructed a research model explore mediating power perceived value knowing (PVKLG) related participants’ engagement lockdown. Data were collected from 497 higher in China. After confirmatory factor analysis with structural equation modeling, results reported positively predicted mediated by PVKLG. The suggest only when have high level PVKLG will they be able regulate process through two types enhance contexts
